I was admiring my fresh alstroemerias in many
different colours from the market. They are all native to South America. They
can be Winter or Summer growing plants.
I was sitting by the fireplace, warm and cozy, making
the edge of a cute piece of fabric for a centerpiece. (I did sc in the holes
and two chains, all the way around. I then did half double crochet and two
chains. Finally, I did sc on the two-chain space. It is easy, simple and clean.
I was browsing a new a great book: Mollie Makes
Crochet, and dreaming up some new projects.
I was still working on my collection of leaves for my
Sweet Autumn Scarf.
I was thinking in a lovely tradition in Canada and
many other countries for everyone to wear the poppy flower for Remembrance Day.
Remembrance Day is a memorial day observed in commonwealth countries to honour all
veterans.
For years after the end of World War I, since 1922 disabled
veterans in Canada have made and sold red plastic poppies to wear on lapels for
Remembrance Day.
The poppy flower was chosen based on
the popular poem “In Flanders Field” written by Canadian Lieutenant-Colonel
John McCrae.
In Flanders fields the poppies
blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The
larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We
lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In
Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To
you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye
break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders
fields.
These poppies bloomed across some of
the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I, their brilliant
red colour an appropriate symbol for the blood spilled in the war.
Entonces decidí diseñar una simple amapola a
ganchillo.
I decided to design a simple crochet
poppy. I had everything that I need to make it: a hook 2.0mm, red and black
thread, (the green is optional to make the leave), Pin back self-adhesive Clip,
and Scissors.

each sc from previous row make (1sc ,2dc,1sc), repeat 5 times. Fasten off.
Using the red thread,
R3: Ch1,work 1sc in
sc, (2dc,2dc,2dc in between 2dc, 1sc in sc) x 5

Fasten off and weave in ends.
Glue the poppy flower to a pin or clip.
Since I already had some leaves I added one and I was ready to wear the poppy
flower pin for Remembrance Day Or Veterans Day!
