A couple of my friends and I are doing a drawing with pastels workshop. I wanted to do this technique for the first time with pastels. I chose this beautiful still life. The painting was developed on and off over 2 days.

I set up a photograph of the still life (above). I am using a 24 Color set of chalk Pastel Colors along with Soft pastels pencils and I am painting on Canson (160g pastel paper).

The next step is to transfer the subject from the photograph. The first pear at the front and the second pear are now developing. Then the dark brown and purple edge of the pear shape as it is taking shape. On the outside of the pears I add a few strokes with white to make the lights.

Almost finished.  I adjust the pears shape some more and the dark green background to highlight the colour and texture of the pears. Finally, some repetitive rubbing with my fingers that has been quite satisfying and also time consuming.

Here is a pic of the corner of my working space. The image must rest a little so then I can decide what needs to be adjusted.
